Fremont, California (April 23, 2019) — ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced Zephyrus S GX502, a device that breaks the boundaries of what ultraslim gaming laptops can do.

Inheriting the innovative spirit of its predecessors, this compact powerhouse isn’t content to just conquer the gaming arena with its new 9th Gen Intel® Core™ i7 processor, cutting-edge NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ graphics clocked up to 1540MHz at 115W with ROG boost in Turbo mode, and industry-leading 240Hz display. Its ambitions aim higher with a PANTONE® Validated display that guarantees color accuracy for professional content creation, and a GPU switch that toggles between smoother gaming with NVIDIA G-SYNC™ or up to 8 hours battery life¹ with the Optimus mode. The Active Aerodynamic System (AAS) increases cooling airflow to sustain higher clock speeds than can be sustained by traditionally designed thin and light gaming laptops. Zephyrus S GX502 offers unique versatility in a conveniently compact form, delivering dynamic performance that doesn’t compromise, whether it’s for work or for play.

Smooth gameplay demands high frame rates to fully take advantage of a high-refresh rate display. Zephyrus S GX502 comes with up to GeForce RTX 2070 graphics that can deliver fluid frame rates for everything from cinematic adventures to high-intensity shooters. Games will not only look and feel smooth thanks to the industry-best 240Hz refresh rate but they’ll also look great thanks to each IPS-level panel receiving factory calibration using ASUS ProArt™ TruColor Technology. Each PANTONE Validated display also ensures true colors across the full sRGB range. Capable of more than just gaming, Zephyrus S GX502 ensures that artists, designers, and content creators can polish their portfolios and complete critical projects with the confidence that colors are accurate on a global scale.

Computationally intensive tasks in particular benefit from the new 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9750H CPU, providing six cores and 12 threads to power through demanding tasks. With up to 32GB of DDR4-2666 memory, Zephyrus S GX502 can handle any multitasking scenario. Gamers can broadcast high-quality streams, chat with the channel, and play the latest titles smoothly, while power users can run everything they need for maximum productivity.

Dual NVM Express® (NVMe) SSDs running in a RAID 0 configuration add significantly to storage speed. Data access is blisteringly fast, which minimizes load times and makes the system feel incredibly responsive. With up to 1TB of capacity, there’s ample space for games, apps and a professional portfolio, all on one machine that's easily taken on the go.

The stark, all-black body is finished with a subtle brushed texture that adds professional polish to the lid. Illuminated Aura Sync accents are completely customizable, accommodating everything from understated keyboard backlighting to brighter, more eye-catching configurations. No matter the user's preference, function or environment, Zephyrus S GX502 both looks and plays the part.

At just 18.9 mm thin and weighing just 2 kg, Zephyrus S GX502 is light enough to carry all day and small enough to easily slip into almost any bag. Super-narrow bezels framing the display enable an impressively compact footprint, and result in an 81% screen-to-body ratio. The metal chassis pieces are made from a magnesium alloy that’s incredibly resilient and lightweight — perfect for surviving everyday life on the road. The palm rest is also reinforced by a rigid honeycomb structure that adds stiffness where it’s needed most. This piece is created using a combination of die casting and machining that provides maximum strength with minimal additional material.

Incredibly cool

Unleashing the peak performance of high-end components in such a slim design is impossible without thinking outside the chassis. The AAS employed on Zephyrus S GX502 elevates the body as the lid opens, exposing a hidden air intake that stretches across the back. This opening increases airflow by up to 22% over traditional designs, significantly improving not only cooling performance, but also real-world and sustained performance in games and professional applications.

Inside, six heat pipes are strategically placed to draw heat off the CPU, GPU, and surrounding power circuitry. All the components share dual heatsinks at the back, and each processor has its own dedicated heatsink in the flanks. The heatsinks use ultrathin fins that maximize the surface area for heat dissipation while decreasing air resistance. The n-blades fans have super-slim blades made of a special liquid-crystal polymer, capable of withstanding higher speeds than typical designs despite being 33% thinner, while the increase in the number of fan blades helps to increase airflow output by 17%. Each fan also has built-in dust tunnels that keep Zephyrus S GX502 running smoothly by preventing debris build-up over time. Performance and cooling requirements often change based on the task at hand, so Zephyrus S GX502 offers Silent, Balanced and Turbo modes tuned for different needs, adjustable with a convenient keyboard shortcut or with the ROG Armoury Crate software.

Better charging, Wi Fi, and audio

For on-the-go convenience, Zephyrus S GX502 can be charged via its USB Type-C™ (USB-C™) port, using a small, lightweight USB-C charger that reduces the overall travel weight and bulk. For everyday tasks like web surfing and office productivity that consume lower amounts of power, Zephyrus S GX502 can be used with a standard USB-C adapter rated at up to 65W. It can also be charged from USB power banks and can deliver up to 18W of fast-charge power to compatible devices such as smartphones.

Maintaining a strong Wi-Fi connection isn’t always easy. Distance from the router, the shape of the room, and even furniture placement can all contribute to dead spots and weak connections. To provide the best possible connection at all times, Zephyrus S GX502 has four antennas in different orientations, and ROG RangeBoost then picks the best two antennas for that moment in time. This intelligent multi-antenna array can increase range by up to 30%. For activities like multiplayer gaming and serious streaming that are more sensitive to network performance, wired gigabit Ethernet provides a low-latency connection impervious to any wireless congestion.

Premium ESS SABRE™ audio elevates the experience for gamers and audiophiles with good headphones. This hi-fi DAC reduces noise and distortion, enabling clearer audio with wider dynamic range, and combined with virtual 7.1-channel surround-sound, provides deep spatial immersion in games and virtual reality. Hi-Res Audio (HRA) certification guarantees fidelity, so media can be enjoyed at full quality.
