This practice has now been honored with a total of 9 EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) gold awards. EPEAT, which utilizes one of the highest rated and strictest standards for green computing worldwide, is one of the fastest growing eco-labels in the IT industry; and the ASUS N Series leads the way as a prime example of the Green ASUS “Four Green Home Runs” initiative that comprises of: Green Design, Green Procurement, Green Manufacturing, and Green Service and Marketing of all ASUS notebooks.
The EPEAT 8 Environmental Performance Categories are defined by IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) as an IEEE 1680 Standard. There are 51 total environmental criteria, 23 required criteria and 28 optional criteria; and EPEAT evaluated electronic products are ranked 'Gold', 'Silver' and 'Bronze' depending on how many green criteria they meet. A sterling example of innovative and Green computing, the ASUS N Series with gold awards—specifically the N50, N80, N10 and the N20—lead the way not only in technological innovation; but with several other notebooks from ASUS manufactured to the Green ASUS standards, amount to a grand total of a quarter of the 36 awards handed out by the Green Electronic Council. This was done by fulfilling the following 8 Environmental Performance Categories:
Reduction or Elimination of Sensitive Materials
Materials Selection
Design for End of Life
Product Longevity/Life Cycle Extension
Energy Conservation
End of Life Management
Corporate Performance
Packaging
As the first computer manufacturer to develop the 1st lead-free motherboard in 2004, ASUS is leading the way in halogen-free manufacturing methodologies into the future. ASUS also has more than 50 notebook models that are qualified by Energy Star—an award with strict standards focused on power efficiency. Through the reduction and elimination of environmentally hazardous substances and the careful selection of easily recyclable materials, ASUS also deploys environmentally conservative ideals into the design of each notebook, ensuring that they are easy to assemble, recycle and reuse. With all notebooks designed for maximum durability and reduced energy consumption, users can use their notebooks longer and at the same time use less while doing more. As with the ASUS conservation culture, all notebooks, batteries and packaging can be returned for recycling across North America at the end of the product’s lifespan.
